Night at the Pittsburgh Symphony

Hello All,

You are still cordially invited to Robert Morris University School of Business "Night at the Pittsburgh Symphony."    The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is playing Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection", by Gustav Mahler with Manfred Honeck, conductor.  More information is provided on the attached sheet.

The event is a networking opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the School of Business.  You are invited to receive a School of Business pin before the concert and to attend a complimentary dessert reception following the concert.  All RMU students are invited as guests of the School of Business.  So, please invite your friends to accompany you to Heinz Hall.

Students also receive complimentary bus transportation to and from Heinz Hall and a complimentary ticket to the concert.  Buses will depart from the Lower Sewall Center parking lot at 6:30 p.m. on Friday October 19.  I ask that you be at the parking lot by 6:10 p.m.  Please contact Laura Whitaker (whitaker@rmu.edu or 412-397-6356) to reserve a seat on the bus and a concert ticket.

2nd Annual Somma Integrity First Intersection Navigating the Challenges Ethics Workshop

Last week’s 2^nd Annual Somma Integrity First Intersection Navigating the Challenges ethics workshop was a success!  Over 80 SBUS students, SBUS faculty and staff joined together for an engaging discussion of ethics and group case analysis exercise.  Thanks to the following students in Professor Grim’s Advanced Labor Management Relations class who served as group facilitators:  Jason Beadle, James Biedrzycki, Brennon Dauginikas, Rehema Emanuel, Sean Gergacs, Jake Hayes, Kylie Jorden, Jordan Kristek, Jamie Kusevich, Adam Mills, Evan Penner, Michael Renda, Ryan Schwartzel and, Lauren Wagenhoffer.

At the end of the case exercise, it was difficult to select only one group from the outstanding case analyses submitted; instead faculty identified two groups that developed insightful analyses of the ethical dilemmas and suggested feasible and relevant recommendations. Congratulations to the following students who worked in these groups:  Nicole Masciola, Sarah Gordon, Marcus Paxton, Cody Redmond, Roberto DaSilva, Melissa Cleis, Heather Niewierski, Deborah Naples, James Biedrzycki, Carissa Smith and Rehema Emanuel

Benefactors, Rande and Georgia Somma, were on hand to acknowledge our Somma Integrity First Scholarship recipients.  Congratulations to our 2012 recipients:  Andre L. Coiro, Clarence V. Ford II, Tyler C. Montabon and Steven M. Tessaro.  Mr. Somma, RMU Alumnus, former Corporate Officer and President of the Automotive Systems Group Johnson Controls - Worldwide and current President and CEO of Rande Somma & Associates LLC a leadership, coaching and development company shared his experiences managing the issues associated with ethical decision making.

And finally, thanks to Jodi Potter, Gayle Marco, Laura Whitaker, Maureen Brant, Mike Yahr, Frank Flanegin, Steve Clinton, David Budziszewski, Zhou Yang, Peter Freymark, Darlene Motley, Wayne Grim, Jeff Guiler, Pat Litzinger, and the SBUS Ethics Committee members Denis Rudd, Richard Mills, Lou Swartz, Michele Cole, Jasmin Lin, Katie Hetherington Scott Branvold or their help in planning the event and evaluating the group case analyses!

Tutoring Services
Over 20 tutors are available to assist students in a variety of course subject areas. Tutoring is available Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weekend tutoring is available by appointment. Requests for weekend tutoring must be made by Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Professional tutors are also available for writing, communications, mathematics and study skills assistance. Etiquette Dinner

The Office of Student Life would like to call to your attention an Etiquette Dinner program for students.

This dinner workshop is an excellent opportunity for students to learn valuable information about dining and businessetiquette.  The menu for the event will be wedding soup, mixed greens salad, choice of entree (sliced roast beef or fettuccine alfredo), vegetable, and chocolate layer cake.
